TRIBUTE /
For the 50th anniversary of Ian Fleming death, Kate and Lucy Fleming received from the hands of Prince Michael of Kent a Tribute Award, an original masterpiece created by the international Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.
Much of Fleming’s work in intelligence went on to shape his James Bond novels. One of the people who have inspired the character of James Bond was the famous Yugoslav double agent Dušan Popov. Ian Fleming and Dušan Popov always met in Estoril either at the Casino or the Palácio Estoril Hotel Spy Bar.
Historical events and Ian Fleming’s frequent stays in Estoril undoubtedly influenced elements of the James Bond story. In particular, the famous gambling scene in the first book, Casino Royale, was inspired by his wartime visits to the Estoril Casino.

The Gift, the most popular Portuguese rock band of the world, was very much applauded for an outstanding show including their international hit “Driving you slow” (American billboard in 2005). Also most appreciated was the acting of the international acrobats Golden Power coming especially from China for this Gala.

The Portuguese architect and interior designer Dino Gonçalves decorated the Ballroom of the Casino Estoril under the theme “La savane floride” in honour of the adventures of James Bond all over the world.
