A nostalgic look back to the beginning with the 001:
Historically, the 001 was a lifestyle shoe and the first-ever footwear model designed by the Li-Ning brand in 1991. Although the commercial introduction of the 001 style was planned for that same year, a defect was found in the original shoe’s design. Since the produced 001 shoes did not meet Li-Ning’s high quality control standards, Mr. Li Ning himself called off the launch. Further, he wanted to ensure that none of the defective products would ever make their way into the market so all commercial pairs of the 001 from the time were subsequently destroyed.
Incidentally, the transparent nature of the cancelled 001 launch won the trust and admiration of the Chinese public, quickly establishing the brand as an honest company, committed both to the quality of its products and the feedback and opinions of its customers.
All of this makes the original 001 both a very rare and very important style in the Li-Ning story.
